In a groundbreaking move, Strategy, a leading bitcoin corporate treasury firm, has made headlines by acquiring 21,021 BTC at an average price of $117,256, utilizing proceeds from its recent $2.52 billion IPO of Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC). This strategic purchase elevates Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings to an impressive 628,791 BTC, valued at approximately $80 billion.
The initial public offering, consisting of 28,011,111 shares priced at $90 each, marks the largest U.S. IPO of 2025 and stands out as one of the most significant equity raises related to bitcoin in the market’s history. After accounting for expenses, Strategy netted around $2.474 billion and has demonstrated a clear commitment to its aggressive accumulation strategy, refraining from diluting common shareholders.
Beginning around July 30, the company’s stock will be traded on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker STRC. Notably, this stock features a variable 9% annual dividend paid monthly, designed to hover close to its $100 par value. As the first U.S. exchange-listed perpetual preferred security from a bitcoin treasury firm, it introduces an appealing income-generating option for yield-focused investors, marking the largest preferred stock issuance on exchanges since 2009.
Investor protection remains a priority for Strategy, as the offering includes rights for redemption and repurchase, alongside provisions for dividend accrual and tax-related redemptions. The press release reveals that major financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Moelis & Company, and TD Securities served as joint book-running managers, while several others acted as co-managers to facilitate the offering.
This latest acquisition follows Strategy’s prior $740 million purchase of 6,220 BTC just a week earlier, further emphasizing its robust strategy within the bitcoin ecosystem. Analysts from TD Cowen predict that the firm is poised to acquire an additional 17,000 BTC by 2034 under its ambitious 42/42 program, aiming to raise $84 billion for bitcoin acquisitions by 2027.
As the cryptocurrency space continues to evolve, Strategy’s significant actions reflect the growing interest and confidence among institutional investors in bitcoin and DeFi, solidifying its position as a key player in the crypto landscape.
